Hi
I have managed to keep my HBA1c to 5.8 for two years by eating whole grains..... traditional rolled oats for breakfast....made with water...with a teaspoon of honey......plus raspberries and ground flax seeds.
Pearl barley, broccoli, with.spinach and tomato soup......no salt no stock cube........

You can eat very well if you focus on low cholesterol low salt low fat.....whfoods website is brilliant for indepth nutritional information and it has recipes too!

Happy eating!

Good for you! Personally I prefer to keep my BG lower than that even though I've got full blown diabetes but am happy with a HbA1c of 32. My HbA1c is this good because I eat a lot of fat but no starch or sugar. And I love salt!

How much fat do you eat? I am fascinated.......have 10 MLS of olive oil a day...........!and my total cholesterol levels were over 200

A lot! About 50 grams of butter, generous helpings of olive oil, coconut oil and coconut butter, cheese, bacon, duck fat when I can lay my hands on it, mayonnaise.

I don't remember my total and it's a different unit anyway, but my trigs stay well below 1and my HDL is around 2. Don't remember the LDL number but it has fallen considerably.

I tend to agree with @Totto, although I've not got such a good HbAqc level. I eat very few carbs, and plenty of fats, oils, and salt. However I've lost weight, reduced my HbA1c to pre diabetic levels, and now have "normal" cholesterol levels.

Starches and sugars give me large glucose spikes and too little salt has always caused bad leg cramps, but my LCHF diet has greatly improved my general health as well as my diabetes... Which only goes to show that one type of diet doesn't necessarily suit all.

Hmmmm! My Cardiologist put me on a low salt, low fat ,low cholesterol diet and will retest in another two months so well see then!

My cardiologist is happy as long as I keep my BG normal. She thinks LCHF is great.

That's the conventional approach, but that's not necessarily the best approach for everyone, so it's not automatically a "recipe for lowering BG".
