Red Bulls and Diabetes

actually my numbers have been good in am (124) b4 i eat anything.... and after I take my meds, I recheck and it drops to around 90 and if I don't eat, on down to 70....thats when I get dizzy. when I don't follow procedure, its been up to 189 before....very rarely though.
Hi Ray, Not really sure how you are testing.

The only way you can test, and particular when you take the red bull, is test before eating or if your just having the red bull, just before drinking.

Normally people on here would test just before eating, then some do 1 hr and then most do 2 hrs, and they expect that the difference between the starting figure does not rise by more than 2mmol/L Like 126 to 148mg/dl The 148 is a little high but I think you may be spiking higher than that.

Because it's liquid I would suggest you do a test 1/2 hour after drinking and then 1 hour and then 1 1/2 hours then 2 hours you should be back down.

I imagine you are spiking very early after drinking the red bull, try it see what happens

Don't assume metfrmin is working the wonders I believe you think it is. Yes, it does make a difference but it's moderate at best.

What is your HB1AC if I may ask? I don't understand those other figures either.

Mike :)

Yup it was brutal, I honestly can't believe I got through it without a heart attack!!! Mega money though ;) I paid off my first house by 30, still have 5 very nice watches and have owned some very tasty cars through the years.

I'm now make hardly any money, I'm living in a chalet and driving a 12 year old car but have an awesome newborn boy and get to spend time with my wife and him every day.

I went from Toyota financial executive to running our own campsite and pub in North Wales www.llwyn-ffynnon.co.uk :)

Yes meant to say, I agree with Mike the metformin will only account for a very small amount of you diabetes control don't rely on the meds, testing & diet is the answer with some exercise.
Wait to hear from you, good luck

Just did the conversions on those numbers from US to UK. I'm amazed to be quite honest.

Absolutely 100% agreed. I've been married for 17 years and we've been trying for the last 10 years with nothing but one miscarriage to show for it.

Me and my wife gave up our jobs and came home from California to chill out and have kids, after 2 years back here we have our awesome little baby hunter! I'd gladly trade all the money in the world for him :)

Understood. I was expecting something FAR worse than what it actually is. Where are you from in the states?

6.7 on HB1AC....cholesterol is high....not sure of them.....I'm 59, been officially diabetic for 8 years...before that every doc would say after my labs: Are you diabetic......I would say well, not one said I am till 2007...even though it has killed about half of my family...type 1.
I'm seriously going to get on top of this.....I crave sugar like crazy though since I quit drinking.....I never could hold my booze though.

haaaaaa....how cool....babies are the cats....I love little kids.....2-4 is my most favorite years....remember art linkletter when he would do the show "kids say the darndest things"?? and they do.

My sugar cravings are going now, Im used to black coffee and no desserts, it took a good couple of months before the cravings subsided though.

Full fat coke was and is still one of most missed things, I would drink gallons of the stuff a month, coke zero even though close just doesn't cut it :(

I can't see me ever quitting drinking, I love my booze :)

Tried some red wine? Won't raise your BS .... and like your resolve. Sorry about your losses by the way. Not good but it seems to have stirred you up a bit. Mike

I can and do drink a couple of bottles of red wine with no affect on my sugars, I'm soooooo glad :)

Here's fridays numbers, I had a bit of a let loose, 4 pints of Carlsberg and two bottles of chianti between 4pm and 11pm...
