Any advice to successfully reduce cholesterol without statins please? I have looked at the Benecol drinks but they have sugar in them ☹️ Grateful for all your advice, the docs threatening me with statins......thank you!

Things that I've heard work though can't say I've tested any: kyolic garlic supplements; fibre supplements; apple cidar vinegar.

Lowering saturated fat in exchange for mono / plant fats like avocado Evoo nuts and seeds has helped many of us. Reducing carbs as well

Thank you. I have reduced carbs and HbA1C now down to 41....but the diet it seems to have naturally put up my consumption of fats. I do eat lots of nuts and sometimes have advocado. Thinking plant sterols might help but cant find any without sugar. I have ordered a flaxseed, pumkin and sunflower mix, apparently that can help.

@Tands3 , along with diet exercise is a useful tool in reducing cholesterol levels and maintaining them.

Regards to the Benecol style drinks, there was a member on here a few years back who drank one daily but also ate a few raw garlic cloves at the same time, he said it helped reduce his high cholesterol to normal levels but we only had his word on that, but nothing ventured nothing gained...................

I stopped statins last Xmas time and went for a natural approach using the margarine fortified with sterols , artichoke supplements, no saturated fat foods, copious amounts of exercise etc etc. 2 months of this and no statins whatosever, my LDL increased to well over the normal acceptable range. I can't remember the exact figure , but can recall the horrified look on my doctors face as outlined the experiment to her!

Back to statins for me, in my case the only way to deal with Hypercholesterolaemia! So if you have hereditary cholesterol , statins may be the only option.

It also depends on whether you take any other drugs that could be affecting cholesterol. I got best results ever by taking plant sterols, flaxseed oil, beetroot tablets and inulin.
Put on Letrozole tablets and they've totally wiped out my good cholesterol results.
I eat barely enough to keep a rabbit alive and its all avocado, olive oil, (was olives), 2 teaspoon max of tuna or salmon and if lucky ginger yogurt and perhaps peach slices... So nothing artificial, no niceties etc. Still, it totally reversed (I think because of Letrozole). Breast nurse denied it has any impact but Macmillan says its the one of the most common side effects.
I don't tolerate statins so am stuck as eventually when I saw breast consultant she said cancer was more likely than heart trouble!!
I just take vitamins now and just hope for the best.

you could try increasing your intake of soluble fibre. This should stimulate LDL receptors removing LDL from your system. Its something to do with bile salts and the liver, cant remember exactly but about 10 grams of this fibre should see a 5% reduction in LDL. Read a guy called Dr. Malcolm kendrick:-

Read as much as you can on the subject as you do not want to be indiscriminately reducing cholesterol before getting a good idea as to why it is 'high' in the first place it may be doing some good. What are your lipid numbers? i'm sure lots of people on here have been exactly where you are at right now, myself included.

The idea that cholesterol is bad and that eating saturated fats cause cardiovascular disease has been totally trashed! Research it . SUGAR has been proven beyond doubt as the enemy of good health. Keep carbs low and eat butter NOT margarine !
