Well said. I think it's great that you have a GP who is onto it enough to send you to a specialist. Good luck.Hi @Nightwishing1984 , I think you should see the diabetic specialist appointment as a positive thing! Sounds like your GP is doing his best but really is just adding more and more meds. The specialist will do a proper review of your diabetes, hopefully with a proper diagnosis of your type, and then you can start taking control of it! Sue xx
So Metformin had virtually no effect on my BG levels.
But less than a week since starting gliclizide my sugars do peak 2 hours after, but before next meal can be under 7 (not happened loads, but sugars are tracking lower than they were)
So this morning 9.3
Had 3 scrambled egg and 1 wholemeal toast circa 8:30 2 hr 13.5 - metformin and gliclizide
13:00 BS 4.8
Just had a bean veggie burger with lots of salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomato, pickled cabbage, little coldslaw, sweetcorn and potato salad)
2hr after was 11.2
Metformin will help if you are insulin resistant, it can also take a few weeks before you see any results, if it's going to make any difference at all. Gliclazide will help you produce more insulin. Hopefully the specialist will ask for a c-peptide test which at least will show what the pancreas is doing. Maybe ask for one if it's not suggested.
It might be a thought to try a meal with absolutely no carb at all and see what the numbers are.
If I have meals which are virtually carb free the they do go down to 6-8 ish.
Metformin 4000mg per day? That is above the recommended maximum dose.graj0 sorry I should have been more detailed I have been taking Metformin for 11 months 1500mg a day, she has upped that to 2000mg 2 in morning and 2 in evening. Then put me on the Gliclizide also 1 in morning and 1 in evening.

I feel like annoyed with myself when my sugars go up, and feel like I can't restrict myself of carbs forever... It's been nearly 12 months since diagnosis..
