i posted the other day about getting a monitoer and some one kindly posted some great links, in particular abbott free sign up howver when i went to sign up, it said i had to be a registered diabetic, what does that mean, as far as i no i am not "registered"

Hi Hevab, don't think any of us are "registered" as such. Just tell them you ARE diabetic, and should be ok. Or try another supplier; phone "Bayer" 0845 600 6030 saying you're diabetic and want to test regularly; say you've hears Bayer are good meters, but if you can't get one free you'll have to go without or get a cheap one. - they give meters away if you ask nicely! or try www.bayerdiabetes.co.uk

My GP forgot to add me to the surgery's list of diagnosed diabetics, spotted that and added me. As a result I can claim to be 'disabled' etc and have free prescriptions although I'm over 65 anyway. This isn't official registration as such but enables you to claim benefits where relevant

Just put yes. I did for my recently diagnosed son. He received a free one in 2 days.

We're all on a an official register I think. It goes onto a national data base.

Getting a meter is not a problem - they can be bought fairly easily and inexpensively

getting supplies of the test strips seems to be more of an issue (at least with my GP) - see rant on 'Newly Diagnosed'
