Regular moderate exercise log

30 lengths this morning in the pool, and running club this evening. Just over 5km - it was really, really enjoyable. Instead of getting any faster than last time, though, I chatted with my new running mates most of the way, and actually that was a new and different experience. Normally I run a little faster and don't talk - but it was nice to run a little slower and chat!

It was a beautiful, sunny evening (has this summer now finally started?!), and I loved it.

:happy::happy::happy:

Woke up 3.3mmol/l - delayed reaction post run-drop (was 7mmol/l before bed so didn't bother snacking, despite all I know about the risk of post-exercise hypoglycaemia). Had some glucose and all was well, but as a result I didn't get to the pool this morning.

Still, it gave me time for a nice leisurely breakfast with my husband!

:)

@Snapsy. Two of the most important things with any exercise regime are rest and change. Seems you've had a win win day all-round. AND a leisurely breakfast.:):)

I wore the wrong socks/trainers whilst out shopping and my feet are so sore - gotta go out soon and walk 3k steps to bring me up to today's target .... hoping Aldi's padded socks will work OK ...

Parkrun this morning. Massively hot and humid, and I got a little stuck in the crush at the start, so I didn't get going very quickly, but despite this I managed a time of only 2 seconds more than last week - I'm so pleased!

No running until Monday but have got an active day out on my feet tomorrow - will be wearing my very supportive walking boots as I have got sore (slightly overstretched) ligaments, I think, between my ankles and heels.....

It's been a very run-filled week (17km across 3 runs) so I think I'll tone it down a little next week.

Still, I'm pleased with my progress, even if it has meant that I've found the word 'overtraining' coming up on my Google searches!

:) + :banghead:

My new toy is very splendid and working accurately, as far as I can tell after pretty thorough testing on my regular routes. It has a lovely little figure jumping up and down with excitement when I've gone over 10,000 steps that day. However, I am miffed that it's only in the total steps. It doesn't do this in the "Aerobic Step" mode. :(

Still, my new aim is to do at least 10,000 "aerobic steps" a day (over 60 steps a minute and more than 10 consecutive minutes - short breaks of less than a minute don't count) even if the little figure isn't going to get excited.

Wow, @Japes - sounds brilliant - I love the sound of the jumping figure! Keep up the fabulous work!

:)
Thank you. Forgot to check if this one counts my steps when I'm playing the organ, but I think it must do as whilst it was a busy morning, I never hit 2 miles before lunch on a Sunday normally! Have written a reminder to myself to check next time I'm playing.

10k walk yesterday visiting all Yvonne's old stomping ground where she grew up in Royal Tunbridge Wells...triggered some lovely memories for my lovely wife:)

Tramped round a massive garden for most of the day wearing very supportive walking boots. Feet are not right.
:(

Gutted to report that I will not be running the club session in the morning. The last two weeks - with pathetic hindsight - were perhaps just waaaaay too full-on with running.
:banghead:

I've always been 'all or nothing'. In this case, too much running = no running for a while.
:arghh:

Swimming tomorrow instead, but after that I do need to meet up with my running gang before they set off - I've promised myself that I will NOT be wearing sports gear so as to render a change of mind utterly impossible......
:stop:

Serious question - how do 'real' runners do this without breaking their feet? The thing I did differently on Saturday was to have my laces a little looser. That must have had this effect. Or is Thu/Sat/Mon/Thu/Sat x 5km each time (7km on the Monday) just too much too often too soon?! My feet felt fine actually during parkrun - I only started feeling they weren't quite right much later in the day.

Disappointed that my new hobby has just taken - pardon the pun - a massive step backwards! Thanks for listening, folks. Sorry for the rant!

Rant away!

I don't know about runners, but I do know my feet ache more if my laces are looser as my feet can rub more against my shoes/trainers/walking boots, and I'm more inclined to blisters when I do as well. I also get very achy feet when my trainers/shoes are due replacing. I think, from what I remember I've heard some running friends say, that's ideally about 500 miles (800km) for runners.

Thanks, @Japes ! It's a similar - but thankfully not as bad - sort of pain to when I first started running, when I was wearing the rubbishest, most unsupportive shoes ever! These newer shoes are incredible, but I was wearing them a lot looser as it was a hotter day and I didn't want my feet to get too squashed once I'd got started on the run and my feet started growing.....

Rookie mistake!

Have done a quick 30 lengths this morning in the pool and to be honest it's such a hot day already that I'm glad to be skiving the run this morning..........

Hav e a great day!

These fitbit things are kind of clever .... due to the car being in the garage for MOT, I decided to cycle to the sports centre and the clever thing picked up "Outdoor Cycling" both there and back ... (30 odd mins each way). I then did 45 mins aquacise and even somehow also managed to walk 12k step

Exhausted now though ....

My pedometer is not at all clever (but it's not a fitbit type one!) 5 calories it told me I had burned gardening today.

That would be 8 hours worth of weeding, climbing up and down a step-ladder whilst getting the 12' long, 2' to 3' deep, and now 6' tall hedge back to that 6 feet, crawling under the hedge to get rid of the rubbish (Why, when I do this once every couple months am I still finding packets with Use by 2002 dates on them?!), delving into the hedge to remove the now dead bramble branches, cutting the grass, trimming edges....

Then it decided the 5 mile post-prandial stroll was worthy of 356 calories. Meh.

To be fair to my pedometer, apart from these calorific idiosyncrasies and a slight tendency to lose time, it's a lot better than the one I was using previously.
