Regular moderate exercise log

Try putting your fitbit on your ankel :D

It's a nice little basic pedometer which clips on to my jeans' waistband! A fitbit is way too advanced technology for me.

The thoughts of (a) the clatter as that falls off my sock between the pedals of the organ, and (b) the palaver of rescuing ANYTHING which falls between the pedals are enough to put me off attaching anything to my socks. But, I like the logic. :)

Oooooh, new running shoes!

I've just got some of those posh non-do-up elasticated laces which I tried for the first time today - oh boy, what a difference! Really, really pleased with them. As soon as I got home from my treadmill session first thing this morning (6km total including 5 mins warm up/down at beginning and end) I got out the second pair of laces I'd bought and 'installed' them in my everyday sneakers.

I thought my feet were comfy already - but oh boyyyyyyy they feel delicious now my shoes are elasticated!

This message is being typed while I'm coming up from a lawnmowing 3.6. Will get out there again in a few minutes - with luck I can just get that job done before the Murray match starts......... In the meantime, sorry for the hypoglycaemic verbosity.

:)

Hi Snapsy, Very interested to read about these "non-do-up" laces, I've never heard of them before. Do you have the details to hand, please? - like, where did you get them, a 'proper' name ( if there is one :)), costs etc

Thanks so much Snapsy. I'm new to exercise, so am just starting out; trying 'brisk' walking for now but with the hope of doing more a bit later - well, maybe.

As for the other new ones - well they certainly look good. Go for it - you only live once ;)
Maybe I'll wait till there's a UK outlet for them :)

Brisk walking is an excellent start, @Salvia - do keep posting your progress!

I've had a busy day today, starting with a swim and then helping my other half on a strenuous job. It all counts!

:)

Walked for 4 hours on Sunday (10 miles).
Felt very sick afterwards (dizziness, nausea, feeling like I had to lie down to recover). I know that people with type 2 doesn't get hypoglicemia - but the only thing that put me back on my feet then - was a cereal bar (the only thing loaded with carbs that my spouse had)

That does sound like hypoglycaemia. Maybe you should try testing before and after exercise. Or maybe it was plain old exhaustion!

Ulp. Second time at running club tonight - bit nervous. Went a fortnight ago (ran just over 5km around town and through a couple of villages and really enjoyed myself) but couldn't make it last week.

According to the email they sent earlier, tonight we are going to '...run loops. For those of you who have asked about doing more interval type training there will be an option to make things a bit harder....'

I gather that on the first session of the month they do something like this, rather than *just* a run.

Hope I'm not going to stick out like a sore thumb.....! Don't even know what it means.
Off to Google 'interval training'.

I did two hours housework. Doesn't sound like much compared with running club. But I lowered my basal and it still brought my blood sugar down a lot.

The infrequency of any attempts at housework at Snapsy HQ, @RuthW , means that running club is a walk in the park in comparison to the elbow grease required for any housework round here!

Swam 30 lengths this morning - bit busy in there today, and I was tired, but even though I was 10 lengths down on my goal I was really pleased I went.

BTW Ruth can I just take this opportunity to thank you for this thread you started. I find it really encouraging and motivating!

Awwww!

How's the fast going, @KevinPotts ? Hope all's well!

Pretty good. Just completed day 6, so just one more day then a big fat rib eye tomorrow night at 7pm:)

Hit my 3 month weight and BMI target set by my doc:)

Perfect! Actually I've just found your progress thread - it's all sounding brilliant! Enjoy your rib eye tomorrow (my favourite! Doggy bag for Snapsy?)!

I just knew you'd do it, Kevin, really well done.

@Snapsy, thanks for the encouragement - we'll see how it goes. I've been on a few walks, but can only manage about 5-10 mins of fast pace (well, as fast as I can go), and then have to drop back to my normal walking rate. That's ok though, coz I'm usually out for about an hour each day and cover roughly 4,500 steps. Trouble is, the last couple of days my knees have complained rather badly, and they still feel hot and aching 4 hrs. later.

I might just have to join RuthW and go back to the housework :( and garden :)

But that sounds like a really sustainable and sensible start, @Salvia - which is great! Perhaps give your knees a rest day tomorrow - that's an essential part of any exercise regime!

:)

Thanks for the advice Snapsy, I hadn't thought about planned rest periods, but now you say it, it makes perfect sense. Perhaps I've been trying too hard and it's time to ease off a little ('specially as I'm approaching my three score & ten )
