Dear all,

Just wanted to share this update:

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in early Dec 2020.

A1C: 11.7%
Fasting glucose: 18.9

I have been on 250mg of Metformin once a day and HFLC diet.

3 month follow-up test:
A1C: 5.5%
Fasting Glucose: 6.2
Metformin still on as recommended by my Doctor.

May 12th 2021:
Got a hypoglycemia attack. Blood glucose went as low as 2.9. Ate apple and energy bar to back in control.

May 15th 2021:
One more hypoglycemia attack during sleep. Glucose level was between 3 and 4 for an hour before going up.

Dr. recommended I should stop Metformin. Hopefully, I can manage it without medication.

I am really thankful to this forum.

LCHF diet, physical activity, stress management, and CGM device helped me alot.

I feel many other friends here can achieve this.

Cheers

HI @Sam09,

Absolutely stellar results and absolutely inspiriring. Really well done.

As to reducing/eliminating metformin -- after I first got to non-diabetic levels, my GP halved my metformin and then eliminated it altogether, and tbh it didn't make a bit of difference to my blood sugar levels. So, its probably reasonable to expect that it will be very similar for you.

Well done Sam, I have a kind of similar story. I was diagnosed in March with an Hba1c of 55 (7.2%) and the doctor wanted to put me on Metformin, I refused and said I wanted to try diet and exercise. Fast forward 3 months and my Hba1c is now 35 (5.4%) and my fasting glucose is around 4.8, cholesterol was 4.3. They haven't mentioned anything about being in remission but I don't have to go back for 6 months and no mention of Metformin either. I lost just over 3 stones (20kg) in those 3 months on a very low calorie low carb diet. The battle now is to keep it off. Whist I realise I started from a lower level than many, I just want folk to know that it is possible to improve this condition for many with some changes. I'm 55 so never to late to start. Good luck to everyone.
