Remission

I see some diabetics talk about “remission”. I was diagnosed in March 2021 with HbA1c at 97. After 6 months it was down to 41, then in March this year 36 and just recently 35.

So I think by some definitions that is remission? But for me, reality is as soon as I relax my diet my numbers will spike again, almost immediately. Remission seems to imply that you are back to “normal” but in fact we are all working hard to stay in a good range. I much prefer the terminology that my condition is currently well managed.

Fair point and on various sites and groups it’s a conversation often had. Some feel remission or reversal implies cured and as such is misleading. I’ve lost count of the times either I or another poster explained the medical definition as opposed to how it’s often perceived by non medics (like many medical terms I guess). Most confusing

It’s usually used in here in the way medical professionals use it, which tends to mean type 2 normal levels (below diagnosis of 48mmol) achieved without drugs. Even then there’s debate shouldn’t be below prediabetic levels or should it be maintained for a particular period of time first etc.

Regardless of what you call it you’ve done amazingly well at keeping it at bay.

Well done on your achievement. For me, I call it well controlled, rather than remission.
continue with your good work :)

Congratulations, to go from a HbA1c of 97 to 35 is a seriously impressive achievement.
Reversed, remission, controlled who cares, you could describe yourself as being in the
rainbow unicorn stage of T2 as far as we're concerned.
It takes absolutely nothing away from your achievement, well done.
