Did anyone see this? My husband was watching and said that they reported a news item about statins now being dismissed as useful unless used as a pre-emptive treatment. He then waited for a full report but we had to go to work. He is interested as his heart specialist is always trying to get him to take them. Anyone see anything or is it a figbox of his emancipation?!

Yes, saw the same thing on the news this morn but no details

All I know is my cholesterol count has reduced since taking them, so I shal continue to do just that 8)

Me too been taking them for years with no ill effects......good for me. :D

In any case any that give you side effects there are alternatives. You just need to ask !

As I understood the report, it said that there was no evidence that statins were of any use, to people who were not at increased risk of heart attack/stroke etc.

And as diabetics were are at increased risk, so I guess we fall into the group that they are useful to.

Anyway I take mine as I have been persuaded that they will reduce my chance of heart issues.

I've stopped taking statins because of leg muscle issues. This is (supposedly!) a rare side effect, but this time last year I could barely walk 100 metres without stopping for a rest. I stopped them last February and am gradually getting better.

The only advice I can give about statins is to find out as much as you can about them, read round, and make up your own mind. I have done just that, and I'm staying off them. Different choices for different people! :)

One of the totally anti-statin sites is spacedoc.net. He's an ex-USAF doctor who was a medic for the space programme. Of course, he may have gone loony since then - no pun intended! There are lots of pro- sites too, if you google, so you can get the arguments for both sides.
