Hi,

I have been out of work for some time and yesterday was my first day in a new job as an electrical fitter. It is quite a phsyical job with lots of lifting and moving things around.

Today i have quite severe aching at the backs of my arms, not the bicep muscle but actually the underside of the arm, not sure of the name of that muscle, anyway it's on both arms..

Could this be just the increased activity my arms are now doing? if so am i ok to continue working through the pain and do you the think the pain will subside as my body gets used to the increased activity?

Is it common for people with diabetes to suffer aches and pains?

Or could this be somthing else?

Don't panic, Mist. It's probably just that you've over-used unaccustomed muscles, and it will wear off as you get more used to the work. It always happens to me when I start gardening again in the spring. Nothing to do with diabetes.

I think the underneath ones are the triceps, aren't they? They sort-of balance things as you lift, particularly if you're doing things above shoulder level.

Congratulations on the job!

Hi Mist, :)

Sounds like the triceps brachii muscles,

A simple exercise is to grab a towel with one hand, lift above the head so the towel drops behind you, and with other hand grab the towel and pull down. Should be a light stretch lasting for 15 to 30 seconds.

This should help.

best of luck with your new job.

Roy. :)

Thank you for the replys viviennem and izzzi,

It's reassuring to hear that it's not related to my diabete's. I just rubbed some deep heat on my arms and i am getting some relief so i think you are right in that i am working muscles that perhaps are not used to such vigarous activity.

I will try the excercise you have suggested, perhaps if i can stregthen that muscle group i won't get these aches as severe as i have them currently.

Thank's for the best wishes with the job also..

Regards, Wayne.
