I have had a very small portion of boiled rice with my tea, just about 2 tablespoons full, and my 2 hour test is 9.7. Thats the highest it has been since I started testing.

Can I conclude that I must avoid rice?

Probably:

The options are:
1) Change the type of rice (find one that has a lower GI)
2) Eat a smaller portion so that the size of the spike is smaller.
3) Change what you eat it with - if you increase the fat content of the meal it might damp the spike a bit.
4) Don't eat rice again
I went with (4).

Were there any less obvious carbs in the meal that might have contributed to the spike?

The rest of the meal was:

mussels in white wine and cream with mushrooms and onion. It was homemade from scratch, no packets or added stuff.

It was yummy :)

I can only real tell if it is carby if you save some for me next time :D

That sounds like a perfect low-carb meal, almost certainly the rice at fault...

Hi lucy
I can manage a few spoons of brown basmatii rice which is very tasty .If I have cauli with a dish eg instead of spaghetti with bolognese I have it as caulli I find this better than grating it

Yes brown basmatii is the way to go. ASDA's own brand one is the lowest carb I've come across although like borofergie have just about stopped having it as the quantity I can eat without spiking makes it pointless. As uncooked weight I could do 25g boiled white and 50g boiled brown basmatii. Best rice for me is Indian takeaway Pilau rice as its fried rice can do around 75g of that.
