Moogie, this is your original post that was posted, out of context, in the Coconut oil thread and was therefore split and made into a thread of it's own as it was of interest. I'm confused when you say that the context has not been posted.

I thought it was in a thread discussing using coconut oil to treat diabetes and some research on that, and was merely to draw attention to the fact that Jennie Ruhle had a post on her blog that day on research in mice. As she is a low carb proponent I thought contributors to that thread might be interested.
If I put it in the wrong place then I stand corrected.

I am happy that it sparked a wide ranging discussion but I wish I had quoted the posting(s) to which it applied. On its own, seemed to imply that I was not in favour of mice research or even knew anything about it, which I don't. I was not expressing a view of my own simply highlighting one belonging to someone else.

moogie.
I am still puzzled as to the connection between Coconut Oil and the research on mice, however I can live with that.

We are very happy that it has sparked a wide ranging and informative discussion on here. I don't think anybody has taken offence at your post or that you do or do not support the research on mice.
There will always be times we may move, edit or even delete posts and not everybody is going to agree with the decisions. However, they are made jointly and we stand by them.

One reason that Dr. Fausman is seeking funding from the public is because it is so difficult for researchers to go against the established dogma and get funding. I found this article on cancer research some time back and the environment seems to be the same in all areas of research.
Hi Rella,
Welcome to the forum.
I believe that the research funding problem is the same in all areas and maybe all cultures. Many historical scientists who did pioneering work were not in favour or believed in their own times.
I cannot comment on the actual science as I know little - as yet - about this field.
Dr Fausman's looks really interesting though. Even if it doesn't lead to obvious success intitially, this kind of work often sometimes results which others can make connections to, even if it is in a different field. So much research seems to be serendipity really.
