Running causing hypos?

I'm a type one diabetic, and have been for ten years without any major problems. I started running a few weeks ago and since then I'm having really severe night hypos. I couldn't move this morning and my partner had to squeeze Glucogel into my mouth. I run in the evenings and sugars are always fine before bed, so I don't know why they drop so severely. I've dropped my Lantus dose from 32 to 25, but in the day my sugar levels are higher than normal so I'm reluctant to drop it more. Any ideas?!

Do you inject Lantus before you go to bed?

Has your body shape / body fat changed in these weeks since you started running?

Are you quite skinny?

Do you have any lumpiness in the areas where you are injecting your Lantus?

I think you need to split your lantus. Take smaller part in the evening and bigger in the morning.
 
I am quite small but haven't lost a significant amount since I started running, and no lumpiness either! Thanks for the tip about splitting the dose. I'm on 22 units so I think ill split it into 10 at night and 12 in the morning. Hopefully it'll do the trick!
 
Exercise makes your cells more absorbent, meaning you become more sensitive to insulin. This can last up to 48 hours, but is a particularly strong effect in the hours after exercise. When I go for an evening run, I'll have halve the Novorapid that I would normally have for my evening meal. I also drop my Lantus by 20%.
 
I've had the same thing since being diagnosed 10 months ago, waking up middle of the night 2-3 times a week with very bad hypos. Trying to get a pump to give me better control. Swapped my Lantus for levemir recently so inject more in the morning and then inject maybe half as much in the evening when I have been exercising (depends on how much/intense) and that seems to be working a treat. Hasn't stopped me going hypo but a lot less night hypos!
