Hello,

I have my first Half marathon next month and was looking for some advice of gels / hydration drinks they have found useful when running long distance.

Thanks in advance

You could get the Kindle version of the Pocket Banting Diet. Prof Tim Noakes had a hand in it.

He is a runner and advocates low carb for improved performance. I couldn't run to save my life so can't advise you, but Google him. He was vilified in South Africa but was eventually exonorated.

Although no longer at all athletic, I do find that my stamina is far higher than 'normals' when I am on a low carb diet - I have eaten low carb since my early 20s whenever I could get away from the advice of doctors, and have never been impressed by the abilities of others to keep up.
These days I only eat twice a day and have to make allowances for those who eat lunch - and I'm now 67.
The concept of eating carbs for energy has always been problematic for me.

I cycle rather than run, but for keeping hydrated, I use High 5 Zero tabs dissolved in water, no calories,no carbs but replace electrolyte and fluids.

I just eat normal food rather than gels. But for an hour and a half effort I wouldn't bother eating. If you are fat-adapted you don't need to take on carbs, you can run on ketones made from your fat stores.

Hi you need SIS GO energy +electrolyte gels, team sky use these the sugar content is 1.2 per 100 ml. So fine for diabetic. I find them very useful and use two or three during 20 miles, find not thirsty or tired afterwards. Am type 2 for 12 years only last two on metformin one a day and will be 76 next week. , keep on going
