I have been advised to go on to a insulin pump so I will need to carb count, since Monday I have been counting my carb intake and noticed that two meals had the same carbs but one meal had twice as many calories, I know that I personally wouldn't take the same amount of insulin fir both meals and wondered if anyone who uses a pump could explain how they work it out.

Not sure what your asking, but you only count the carbs when bolusing (unless the meal is low-carb or has a high amount of protein & fat) as the calories are irrelevant, I didn't change my ratio's when moving over to a pump but have since adjusted them slightly, when you get a start date for the pump keep a detailed record of your insulin doses (both basal & bolus) and your DSN will advise you and help set up the pump.

If you need help with carb counting have a look at the following:

Basically you just ignore calories. Apart from the partial exceptions that @noblehead noted, where you might make some timing adjustments for a high fat meal.
