I have recently read that diabetes can cause itching I take cetrizine every day to stop my skin itching but my scalp just won’t stop, I’ve used t-gel shampoo and e-45 anti itch cream and neither are helping I keep taking the scabs of and it becomes very sore.
Could anyone advise me on a cream or shampoo that they have found improves the scalp problems?? Tia

I take a medication that makes me itch so have to combat it with certirizine. I do however change over to loratadine every so many months as your body can get resistant to the certirizine.

Other than that I'd try a medication shampoo like vosene (sorry I'm assuming your British) or something similar.

The other place to go would be your GP who can prescribe a hair and body shampoo

Good luck

Hello! I too have an itch when my blood sugar jumps up, not sure about the scalp though, but I use a wooden brush and I highly recommend it, as it's more gentle on your scalp, provides nice massage, and stimulates blood flow to your scalp. You can read more in this post if you like. Well, at least it's better because it won't scratch or irritate your scalp. Hope this was helpful, take care!

Well, this itching problem is so REAL, and when it starts it get so WORSE. Sleepless nights and much more. Something known as parasthesia. Maintaining it from diet, exercises, health tracking by any health tracker and much more it takes!!

You could perhaps try nizoral shampoo

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nizoral-Dandruff-Shampoo-Perfect-Flaky/dp/B001ETUD5I

It’s anti-fungal. I use it once a week to keep on top of my scalp fungal dandruff/psoriasis/whatever it is.

It could be that if you are running higher BG it has allowed a fungal infection to take hold, much like thrush elsewhere in the body. I find that when mine is bad, my hair smells ‘dirty’ even immediately after washing. This sorts it out.

However if the itching is a side-effect of the diabetes itself I don’t suppose it will help. :cat:
