Scared of doctors

Hi everyone, I’ve got an hba1c test result of 42.7, and generally 2hr post-prandial glucose of 9-11.5 mmol/l. I’m always very anxious about seeing doctors and couldn’t bring myself to go the GP, so I got the hba1c and finger prick monitor privately because I’ve had some symptoms of being thirsty and very tired, and I find it hard to keep weight on. From those readings, I’m not 100% sure if I count as pre-diabetic or actually diabetic, as the hba1c isn’t that high but the post-prandial glucose is fairly high. I eat a healthy diet, no processed foods, whole vegetables, veggie protein, home cooked, basically never anything with sugar in.
I was wondering about this - I’m actually on the verge of underweight with my bmi, have a healthy diet, and exercise regularly. This doesn’t seem to fit the risk factors for T2, so I’m wondering if I could have LADA. I was planning to try to improve my glucose tolerance with some HIIT and reducing carbs, but is this safe with LADA? If I can’t get it under control then maybe I need to go and see a doctor anyway, but I’d really like to try by myself.

Welcome to the forum, sorry but none of us can diagnose or tell you wether you have diabetes or not, a visit to your GP even though you are scared, and I totally get that, it can be hard to face our fears and anxiety but you are also making yourself stressed and anxious worrying wether you have diabetes or not.

Go see your GP, if you get a diagnosis then please come back as we are a friendly bunch with years of experience and knowledge that can help you

never anything with sugar
Sugar is just another form of carbohydrate, all carbohydrates turn to glucose when digested apart from the fiber which passes right through. Your high post prandial would suggest to me that your meals contain too many carbs for your body to process.

I would have thought that with LADA your levels would be higher all the time not just after meals.
LADA? If I can’t get it under control then maybe I need to go and see a doctor anyway, but I’d really like to try by myself.
If you do have LADA you can't control it yourself you will need insulin.

May I ask a stupid question? What is so terrible that doctors can do to you that you are afraid of them? You will simply be prescribed a blood test for glucose and c-peptide, and then, depending on the results, they will select a treatment. Even if you have LADA and you need insulin, the doctor will help you prolong the period when your beta cells are alive and not end up in the hospital with ketoacidosis and complications. If you have T2, the doctor will help you choose a diet and/or medications. Or maybe you don't have diabetes at all and you're worrying for nothing. No one will do anything bad to you (ok, if you're afraid of blood tests, then maybe it's really scary, but if you were able to do it yourself, then you're unlikely to be afraid of it)

A Hba1c of 42.7 puts you in the per-diabetic corridor, those 2 hours are closer to full blown T2.
Now is the time to get pro-active, it's your health, it's your body.

Worst thing happens, you get a diagnosis, full blown type 2.
You are on the register, then you get options, drugs or lifestyle modifications,
You also get free eye & blood tests that can spot complications early.
Medicine has moved on massively is the past 20 years, complications can be prevented or reversed with early detection.
The only person you're cheating is yourself.
