Hi have had type 2 for two years and with very little change in diet have been ok with blood test , the average one over a few month don't know the name, of about 7 to 8. However I just got really really bad Dupytrens in my hands which is so painful, one doc says it is associated to diabetes the other says no!?
The past few days I have got very sick and tired and sweaty , checked my sugars are at 10 to 12 morning and 14 to 16 . What can I do as I just take tablets twice a day ( 80 mg) and haven't eaten cos I'm too scared. Are these really high levels? Or can I drink water?

Hi Hutchie, welcome to the forum. Your levels are on the high side and you need to do something to try to reduce them. That could mean one of 2 things. You can possibly modify your diet ( reduce carbs/sugars ) and increase exercise, or you may need to adjust meds, or both. I would keep a diary for a week or so, record BG levels, food and any exercise. You then need to speak with your doc or DSN to decide a plan of action. Please don't be scared to eat or you'll feel worse. Just reduce carbs, eat lots of eggs, meat, cheese etc. Good luck. Mo

Unfortunately bane of my life as have disability too so exercise difficult. Probably do eat more carb like bread than I should. I will change this and take your advice, THANKYOU. How do I get rid of the sweaty ill feeling now, any ideas?

Hi. An HBa1C level of 7% to 8% is too high and so are your current meter tests. How old are you and are you overweight? What are the tablets you are taking? In the short-term reduce your carb intake, have plenty of water and discuss having more meds with the GP. Eating protein, veg and a sensible amount of fat should be OK as it won't increase your blood sugar to any degree. I don't know if Dupytrens affects any of this so do discuss with the GP.

Hopefully the sweaty, ill feeling will go away as you gain more control over your diabetes. If not, discuss with your GP.

I am 53 and am overweight mainly due since I became disabled and have had lots of steroid infusions for my illness. I take glibenclamide ( sorry got taken of metformin as I got awful diarrhoea) 80 mg twice a day however I got bad hypos on this so was changed to 80 then 40 mgs but now I feel even worse! Hadn't even had breakfast and tried taking my blood sugar as I though I was in a hypo? Shocked and worried as 10.5 . I took my last tablet before bed with some supper to see if it helped that way bout apparently not.
Shaking though so thought I would see here and so glad for replies so far.

Dupryrens is indicated in Diabetes (it can also be hereditary). From what I have read, high sugar levels disturb the cords in your hands and that's when the nodules grow. Since being diagnosed and controlling my blood sugar mine haven't got any worse.

THANKYOU, this is the info I needed so much. It seems I need to get things under control , x

Hi. It sounds like you are a T2 with some insulin resistance? The steroids will almost certainly be causing some of the raised sugar level. Try to keep your carb intake down as far as you sensibly can and keep the calories up with proteins and fats. You might want to discuss going onto Metformin SR (the Slow Release) version with the GP as it is much kinder to the stomach and will help a bit with insulin resistance. I'm assuming you were on the plain version before

Yes they said I have type two metabolic condition with insulin resistance but sorta said take the tabs ! The metformin both types have me the runs! Badly! So got changed to glibenclamide and so far always been 7 to 8 and goodish blood tests but last few days it's bad and I feel bad but no changes to anything I have done.

There is a lot you can do through diet.

But probably worth seeing your GP as the changes have happened quickly

If you want to put up a sample of your days menu, we can give some advice on things you could try. NHS diet advice can be patchy

Thanks so much, supposed to be going on holiday in the morning, so will reduce carbs and keep monitoring and post up one menu next week. THANKYOU so much, I didn't get advice apart from DONT eat sweet stuff! I don't anyway cos I don't like it!

Ok, please give us a bulletin when you get back.

Don't forget carbs are bread, cereals, pasta, rice, fruit juices. Bananas and grapes are high sugar. Go for things like salad and omelettes
