Type of diabetes
Type 2
Hi.
I was diagnosed wth Type 2 in October 2015. I am on metformin and gliclazide tablets and inject insulin. I wear glasses and just before Christmas my short and long distance changed which resulted in a new prescription for new glasses. Four weeks on my long distance vision has changed again. I have been to the opticians and he has suggested to leave it a week before having another eye test. My blood sugar levels are now between 4.5 to 8.0 which have gone down from 21.7 when I started the meds.
It is an expensive game getting new lenses. Do I wait and see if my eye sight changes to what it was before or do I get new glasses. Has anyone else had the same eyesight issues.
Cheers.
Richard.

Hi Kingsheathlad. Before you were diagnosed did you have blurred vision? ( usually caused by circulating high blood sugar) Did you tell the optician that you were only recently diagnosed and had just began treatment for Diabetes? I'm surprised the optician did not suggest that you went back at a later date once your meds/insulin had kicked in to reduce your blood sugars and then the blurred vision.:)

I had same thing but my eyes were getting better not worse, so went to Prague and had artificial lenses put in it was a lot cheaper there than here and I got a holiday out of it

Hi.
It was not blurred vision but vision got worse so needed a new prescription. I have worn glasses since 14 and now 61. The opticians first thought was it might have been a coincidence and my sight might have changed anyway but now it has changed so soon again it is more likely down to the diabetes I think.

I hope you can return the glasses, as once you have got your blood glucose levels in control your eyesight should return to its former state. It is the effects of your blood vessels in the back of your eyes enlarging and altering your eyesight. I had it and yes mine did revert but a little bit better than before.

It's expensive - I paid £400 last year for varifocals, and I will not be going when I'm called in a years time. Think I will wait 2 years.
