Seeing a specialist, what to expect?

I'm T2 (for those that don't know) and will be seeing my GP really soon. In this time of cuts and an apparent general ignorance of diabetes from my surgery I'm not expecting miracles but I should now be getting referred to a specialist. I don't know how long it will take to actually see him/her (whether it will be pretty sharpish or involve some waiting).

But when I do see them, what can I expect. How long will they spend on me? Will I be on some strict conveyor belt where they get me in and out asap?

I have lots of questions about my condition. Will they answer and sanction the tests required to establish the exact nature of the condition in my case?

Can any people share their experiences?

I know a large part of this depends on the characteristics of the doctor I see, i.e. if they are accommodative or not. Will it be an endocrinologist or a diabetologist?

My experiences of the PCT (hospital) diabetic clinic have been really good, others have had less success, so it would seem that like most things NHS it all depends were you live.

But dont write it off before you get there, stay positive until you are proved wrong :D

I'm T2, and I asked this exact question last time I went to the hospital.

They offered me insulin.
