Type 2 Semaglutide Tablets (Rybelsus)

Just wondered whether anyone else is on Semaglutide tablets and how they are getting on with them?

I started on 3mg, then 7mg and now on 14mg and reduced my insulin.

The side affects are stomach pains, Diarrhea and sickness mainly in the mornings.
My glucose levels have reduced but the sickness is starting to annoy me as it’s becoming more consistent.

Thanks.
Steve

Hi Steve,
I've been on Rybelsus since August '24 and have exactly the same symptoms as you describe, apart from mine are in the night 2-3am with nausea being present most mornings too.
I described these to both my diabetes nurse and my doctor who assured me that it was not connected to the medication - I'm not so convinced! The side affects mention that these symptoms pass within a month, mine, like yours are getting worse - It is also interfering with leaving the home!
I 'd be interested to hear what feedback you have had from your medical team.
Regards
Sheila

Hi Sheila,
thanks for coming back to me, I assumed with no response that no one else was in these tablets.

So I ended up going back to hospital diabetic nurse to advise the symptoms and they recommended I go back to 7mg.

I have since stopped vomiting and no diarrhoea.

I have reduced my insulin down to 17units at the moment and average blood levels of 8/9 per day so on the right track.

I am being advised the long goal is for me to come off insulin injections all together and take the Rybelsus and metformin but not quite there yet.

I feel If I went back to 14mg the sickness/diarrhoea will come back again so still working through it.

I am being told by people in my family that there friends are now taking one insulin injection per week and they seem fine and don’t take Rybelsus so I guess it continues to be trial and error.

I’m on Rybelsus and have been for about a year now. I started on 3mg for a month, then increased it to 7mg. That was enough to maintain my blood sugars at a normal level along with a low carb diet, and I have lost weight slowly but surely. I am lucky in that I haven’t had any unwanted side effects.

I haven't needed to progress any further than 7mg, but with the increased sickness my levels are fluctuating as medication is not getting a chance to enter the system on some days!
I've not been 'dieting' but I have lost 3 stone in 3 months and the Diabetic nurse advised me that I shouldn't lose anymore weight. Bit of a joke really as I don't seem to have any control over that!
Constant fatigue doesn't help either - I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis and up to this week I was on steroids - so I'd been fighting a losing battle with weight gain up until August!
Anyway- type 2 Diabetic, 1000mg Metformin and 7mg Rybelsus daily.

I'm off to book an appointment with the Diabetic nurse!

Thanks for all the info.

sounds like 7mg can be hard for some.

I wonder as you are on 1000mg metformin this is affecting it.

I am on 500mg pre longed metformin because again when I was asked to go on 1000mg my stomach was having none of it. the pain was not good.

I agree I have lost some weight, I feel some days I have lost weight and others gained, bit weird.

Sorry to hear about the other issues you face.

sounds like we are on a similar journey, i think the only difference is my diet continues to be a struggle with carbs unfortunately, I need to be stronger on eating healthier foods, I just find near enough all diabetic foods mentioned are so bland and have no taste.

I enjoy the food I eat, have a look at this thread for meal ideas and pictures to inspire you.
