semi diabetic

In a recent press article Elton John said he was semi diabetic, does anyone know what this means or is it just his own invention

He means prediabetic. His hba1c is between 42 and 47. 48 is the number where diabetes is diagnosed.

Probably means he's pre-diabetic.
