Sensor failure

I received my free trial freestyle Libra 2 sensor yesterday. I followed all the instructions when applying it (except the alcohol wipe because I didn’t have one). Overnight it failed and I awoke to a message on the app saying ‘sensor ended apply new sensor’. It’s stuck on really well, I tried rescanning but message was the same. I’m really disappointed as I’m a new T2 and not entitled to sensors on prescription and can’t afford to buy them. I just wanted to get a better understanding of the effect of my diet and activity on my sugars from a two week trial.

Do you think it was due to not using an alcohol wipe? Do you think I will be able to get a replacement free one?

Sorry you have had this experience. Libre when it works is great piece of kit. Abbott should should send you a replacement sensor free of charge. Just give them a call. They may ask you to return the faulty sensor to them so hold onto it till after you have spoken to them

Thank you, just called Abbott and a replacement is being sent.

Any thoughts on the skin prep?

Don't worry about alcohol wipes.
If your skin is clean, dry and free of any grease you should be fine.
Do not use moisturiser or moisturising shower gel/soap after drying off when you get out of a shower.
I have heard of one person who dries their arm with a hair drier to make sure there is no moisture left.

The risk of not using alcohol wipe is that the sensor may not stick if your arm is greasy.
The failure you saw is not caused by a greasy arm.
Sadly, sometimes the sensors fail but Abbott is pretty good at replacing them

Hi,

If you sensor was well attached, I wouldn’t have thought that was the issue?
I had a “sensor ended” flag on the app 6 hours prior to it’s actual finish time a month or 2 back.

Which in years of use is the first error to happen with my Libres… L1 &L2.
I’d say the fault was with the unit, or possibly the app? not the way it was attached.

I've had 3 sensors fail each 4 days apart haven't a clue why but I'm putting it down to warm weather. Every 4 days my sensor loses it's connection and doesn't recover their meant to last 14 days before needing to change
