Hi, I have a Medtronic 554 pump and a Minilink (version1) CGM sensor.. The pump is NHS funded but I bought the CGM myself and have to pay the CGM senor costs. I only want to use the CGM on an occaisional basis but the sendors are sold in packs of 5 and only have a lifespan of 6 months.

Is anyone interested in sharing the cost of a box of sensors (£275 for 5) and splitting the contents, either on a once off or ongoing basis to amke the part time CGM more affordable?

Thanks, Bryan (in the UK)

I can see how trying to share costs might seem like a good way to help lessen the burden of paying for CGM. And, so long as the CGM sensors always work well for both of you and you both get a full 6 days of use from them, it could be a way to go.

But the potential problem is what to do if the sensor(s) you split with someone else do not work out for whatever reason. What if the person who did not purchase the sensors gets a "Bad Sensor" error? What if the sensor starts pistoning making it unreliable and it needs to pulled early?

In the past I have been able to call Medtronic when this happens, spend some time reporting the problem and, eventually, set up a replacement/RMA for the "bad" sensor. But that involves (1) talking to a Medtronic support rep who will (2) review my account and potentially (3) want to look at the data uploaded from my pump to my Carelink account. How will you work that out should it come to that and the rep notices something inconsistent?

Now, I'm not claiming you'll always have to do all of the above if you call in a sensor problem. And even if you do, I'm not certain how much, if any, attention Medtronic will pay to the purchase details of a sensor. But they might. And if they did, how would you and whomever you're sharing the cost with work it out? If someone shares sensor cost with you and has a bad sensor which can't be replaced, will you refund their money? Or what?
