Hi sorry if I sound stupid, but I got diagnosed with t2 almost 2 years ago and since been on meformin they said if I want to test my gloucose levals I will have to buy the meter and test strips ect which I dont have a problem with , I have sent for a kit to day and a sharps bin but how do I go about getting the sharps bin disposed of as never had to do it thanks for any help .

Hi julesanne,

Not sure if this applies everywhere but my local council (Adur) collects mine and gives me an empty replacement.

Check your council website if you can or give them a ring. Your GP's practice should also be able to give you the right advice.

Good luck.

I am testing regularly and I reckon it will take a long time to fill my sharps bin. I was presuming my medical practice would take care of it for me.

In my area the council delivers and picks up sharps bins for free. I know this is not the case in all areas. Ask your doctor's surgery or chemist or check your council website.local chemists round here don't even bother stocking them. No need.

Both 'my' surgery and local council will dispose of mine for me .
Chemist no longer does this service .

Try both your surgery and local council offices .
See what they say on this matter for you .

The council also offers a replacement sharps bin service .
Takes the old full one away and leaves a new one in its place .
(my collection is every Tuesday)
You will have to ring them - the week before requesting this service .
All your details will be asked for and entered onto their data system .
