Sharps disposal

After 3 years of testing, the time has come to dispose my almost-full canister of sharps and get another.
I gave up trying to access info on the local system by email, so phoned. A very helpful person answered once I had been through the press for this press for that scenario, and she said she would put a form in the post. I would then need to fill out my personal details, take the rest of the form to be filled by a nurse or a doctor (cue ironic laughter and need to drive to surgery, pass form to receptionist, come back later once a nurse/dr. found to fill in details (not the same day, obviously) aaaand - apparently a pharmacist could fill the form and countersign instead. As surgery and pharmacy are next to each other, decided to try pharmacist first as they are open all day and surgery isn't.
First pharmacy staff member knew nothing about it. Found another. She knew nothing about the procedure either. Enter actual pharmacist who was cross about I don't know what, swept form away, returned with form incorrectly filled in but at least signed and stamped with pharmacy address, swept away again as if I was something he'd found on his shoe.
The next process, as described by helpful council lady was for me to send this form back to her, then she would phone me to arrange collection of sharps container and supply new one.
Let's hope I get a bit of notice and can be in that day. Could this procedure be made any more convoluted? What do the rest of you do?

Up until around 5 (ish) years ago I could drop them off at a local health centre but unfortunately they closed down and the next closest one just wasn’t feasible to get to all of the time.

I now get them collected by my local council, all I had to do was fill in a form with my name, address, contact number and email and where I would be leaving the sharps bin as they can turn up from 6:30am. All I have to do is then every time I need one collecting ring the number and they’ll come on the next available collection day (always Thursdays here). Super easy and painless experience for me.

Such a shame that it seems your experience was not like mine and seemed overly difficult for something so simple… not sure why it needs a doctors approval either

I do the same as @Nicola M and leave the sharps bin out the night before by my other bins, so hidden from passing pedestrians.

It seems that local Councils differ in their procedures. I have never had to fill a form. I just telephone the local Council to ask for a collection. They ask me how many, and what size, sharps boxes I require. I leave the full ones on my doorstep on a designated day and they leave empty boxes.

The same for my council, but can arrange everything online.

Spicy food which is too hot. Nasty people who have no idea on your life journey but feel the need to comment and be cruel.
I order a sharps box from the pharmacy. Used to just pick one up but have to tell them what I want and then order.
When full (latest one will take me about three years!
Go online a book a council pick up....put in clear plastic bag with my code on.
