Ut oh... forgot my breakfast this morning so stopped at the Healthfood shop near work and bought a Nutty 9Bar....as I've heard these mentioned on this website thought it might be okay. I read the ingredients... for the 50g bar it was 279 calories with 16.2 carbohydrates. So it all sounded good and it was extremely yummy.

I ate it and drank a cup of tea with skimmed milk.

Before Breakfast 8.6
1 hour later 12.9

Another 30 mins to go until the 2 hr test but I know it will still be high.

Some days I hate my meter :(

Hands washed before test? Might make a difference. I tried a 9bar the other day sceptically and it was .... fine.
Fingers crossed for you.

I Saw some in asda too but they were chocolate coated on the top, never was a fan of anything sweet so gave it a pass, I was curious to pick one up though myself.

32.4 g carbs per 100 g? I don't think so ...

I have never tried any of these, but I believe lots of people try the peanut variant. According to myfitnesspal, that's 10gr carb, as opposed to the nutty variant at 17gr.

This thing turns us all into true sleuths.

Maybe next time in the healthfood store just pick up a packet of plain brazil nuts?

Next time I won't forget to take my breakfast out of the fridge before I leave for work! I also thought by choosing something that was a measured amount of carbs I would be safe. I find nuts too hard to resist and was worried I would nibble on them all day. So far I haven't found a plain yoghurt that I like that likes me... But I'm working on it. Breakfast is always my worst meal grrr

What was in your "breakfast in the fridge"? Could you make time to eat it before you go to work, preferably not long after you get up? This may prevent a liver dump because your body is still fasting yet you are using up energy by rushing about getting ready. It is always possible you had a liver dump just before you ate the bar, which would have made the levels even higher after eating it.

As DAFNE say you don't have to do a 2 hour test. If you're type 1 for most diabetics the quick acting insulin takes about 4 hours to do its thing. For me I use novorapid and after 2 hours I can be as much as 4-8 mmols higher than my BSs before a meal so I rely on the 4 hour test. Don't do any corrections until you know the first set of insulin has done its work otherwise you can end up in hypo later in the day due to insulin stacking.

@Bluetit1802 Breakfast today was meant to be 2 slices of ham, spread with cream cheese and rolled up in lettuce leaves... by lunch time I was down to 4.7 (phew) and 2 hrs after lunch I am 6.0.

Unfortunately I struggle to get up any earlier to eat breakfast before I go to work (I start work at 8am) and its an hours drive from where I live. I think this weekend I am gonna check out some full fat yoghurts and try to find something that I like that likes me!! In the past it didn't matter what time I ate and my usual breakfast (Mon to Fri) was always 2 weightwatchers yoghurts and a special K cereal bar... both are off the menu now.

Tomorrows breaky will be poached salmon with one plum tomatoe a couple of olives and a bit of olive oil. So if I dont forget it I should be okay.

Apart from full fat Greek yoghurts there are some natural goat or sheep milk yoghurts which are as low carb and might suit some better.

If you can find something quick, such as a plain low carb yogurt with a few berries added, and eat it before you leave, you may find this helps. Rushing about followed by an hour's drive before eating probably isn't helping.

In defence of the 9bar:

Are you sure you weren't liver dumping, because you had gone for too long without breakfast?
Or stressed (no brekkie would be a big source of stress for me!)

My experience of 9bars (they are a staple of mine) is that they have minimal BG impact. They are mostly nuts and seeds which are slow release.

I realise we may have varying results, but my BG rise is usually between 0.1 and 0.7 per 9bar (although I stick to the flavours that are lower carb, within the range).
