Shock while comparing two meters!

Yes, if you have access to enough strips, i'd test, test, test. One of the reasons i've been put on insulin was due to having swings. My swings were more from levels of around 10 to high teens early 20s.

Snap !! was popping low as 3 then up to 18
Because I am on my own a number hours of the day ,Prone to odd black out ,not diabetes related
GP refused to place me on insulin. until all other options used up

Happy with that and the JANUVIA

Havn't had any lows...yet! I had DKA before christmas and was heading into that territory again with my BG levels and symptoms, that was one of the main reasons insulin was chosen over a different oral or adding other orals.
 
Last nights BG results:

Supper:

Home made Lamb mince kebab, salad and frozen chips.

pre-meal: 5.8
1 hour after meal: 6.8
Then had a small portion of ice cream and 1 hour later 8.8.

Bedtime reading was 6.0

Yesterdays high reading must have been that bread, will test again today and see if it goes high again.
 
Getting hanf of it then!!! Make a not of meals that do not cause you highs...you will probably find certain times and certain foods willl,,,,and thenyouu can change these things....glad to see some normal readings though....
 
As mentioned earlier in the thread, BM meters do have a high tolerance for readings.
I noticed that readings can be all over the place, even after testing 3 times in quick succession even on the same meter.

At first, I though my meter was faulty, but the same experience was had with a number of different meters from a couple of manufacturers.

What I also found was that the amount of blood I tested with. For example, if I had trouble drawing blood, and could only barely squeeze enough out to complete the test, this would give me a much lower reading than if ample blood was flowing from my (now sore) fingers.

Essentially, all meters have a tollerace of between 10% and 30%. If you suspect an odd reading, re-take it if testing strip supplies permit.
 
As both the meter readings were very close, there was no reason to suspect that there was anything wrong with neither the meters nor the strips. It seems like it was just a one off thing as I've not had any high reading since.

I have no idea why the high reading that day but everything seems to be back to normal. I am still testing 3-4 a day and only today after a very long walk I got an 8.5 reading, otherwise all reading have been under 8. Keeping my fingers that it won't happen again.
