II am type 1 but yes I think it is a little oversensitive given that type 2 is somewhat connected to over consumption of Bake Off products (and plenty of other factors before anyone gets riled)! It would be tedious if PH had to state the difference between type 1 and 2 each time he mentions diabetes or if he had to re state the difference between hyper insuliemia and insufficient insulin. He is not on Trust Me \I'm A Doctor and is merely reflecting popular opinion/ignorance.
My personal bugbear is the people who mention 'artery clogging' fry ups etc....as in 'heart attack on a plate'! None of them are presenting on a medical show however and its there we should criticise the orthodox myths that get peddled e.g. the Healthy Wholegrain.
So who is allowed to make jokes about chronic and potentially life threatening conditions? Not that it was much of a joke but let's hope the Twitter mob have corrected him for his sugar shaming antics as he is clearly pancreatically privileged and therefore not allowed to say anything.I understand what you're saying. I just thought, why is he making a joke about a chronic illness? Imagine if someone on television l, on a family show made a joke about cancer or HIV, it would be totally unacceptable, so why is it OK to make jokes surrounding diabetes of any type?
There's a lot of people shouting, some of them coming to T1's defence and then adding that he shouldn't be "ignorant", as it's just the T2's who have themselves to blame for being alcoholics and eating too much sugar.
