Must have lots of these kind of questions so apologies. I have for sometime noticed strange symptoms. I do not smoke or drink. I do not look obese but my BMI states I nearly am. Probably weight from muscle and bone as I cycle and walk a lot sat and sun usually all day long, but sit a lot too due to my job Mon to fri

Anyway, recently when I start doing some tasks I start feeling as if its going dark and sudden fatique. I then feel an intense urge to eat something in order to recover. Cereal works well. In the mornings I also feel shaky and just an odd sensation. This is not everytime. I am aged 49 and male with no health issues known to me. I also feel tired a lot which I have put down to viruses but I have no symptoms of having colds or flu so probably not. I do sleep well at night with 7 - 8 hours.

I have a home test kit to rule out diabetes but fasting measurement is 7.1 first thing in the morning which seems a little high for first thing.

Should I get checked out or is this just in the normal range and just put it down to my age? There is a lot of autoimmune disease in my family, sisters , their children etc, mother etc of varying types.

Anyway thanks for your advice and realise its probably nothing.

Seems like you have enough with which to see a doctor about even if you don't have diabetes. The only firm information in all that is the 7.1 reading in the morning although a home reading does not qualify for diagnosis.

If you get similar readings on an officially approved device you would qualify for a diagnosis of diabetes. Yes, go see your doctor.

7.1 fasting blood sugar is not normal for a non diabetic person. I think it is better to consult a Doctor.

I think 7.1 is not a normal reading for non disbetic person. It would be better to to consult a Doctor.

Hi. A fasting test can be affected by overnight liver dumps so not the best time to test. I would take various readings 2 hours after a meal and check that they are all below 8.5mmol. If some are then do see the GP for further tests. Typically undiagnosed diabetics will go to the loo quite often, have thirst and so on if the blood sugar level is going into the teens. Tiredness can have a myriad of cause of which diabetes is one
