My fasting blood test result was HbA1c 53 .7.0% and my nurse said she was happy with that.I am on 1x500 mg Metformin. She dosent want to see me again until October.I dont think that result is all that good.
I am 5ft 6ins and 10 stone.havent much energy on low carbs,I have to avoid fat due to a LDL of 2.5

Hi Patricia

I would be concerned that if you are low carb and low fat you will be running on an empty tank. You need to get calories from somewhere. As far as I know, there are a lot of myths surrounding cholesterol. Someone smart will be along soon to explain it no doubt.

Hi,

If you are on low carbs you can't really avoid fats or you will have no energy. Your body gets its energy from carbs and fat. If you cut both, you have nothing left. I think you will find that increasing your fats (good fats) your cholesterol won't be compromised, and quite honestly there is nothing wrong with an LDL of 2.5. Maybe you should consider ditching all low fat products and go for cheese, real butter, real yogurts and real mayonnaise. Cook with olive oil or rapeseed oil. Please don't be afraid of fat. You don't need to overdo it, but you do need to increase it to make up for the low carbs.

Good advice from Bluetit there. You can't deprive your body of all sources of energy !

When I went to see my DN I asked what my hba1c should be (if you look at different countries they all say different figures??). She said if you are diet controlled type 2 the NHS say it should be 6.8, but if your diabetes is controlled by medication then 7.4?? This doesn't make sense to me, but this is what I was told on Monday. So that'll be why they're happy!
