I do not have diabetes
Hello everybody,
I've recently got a A1C test done because I've been having dry mouth issues and I wanted to see if it could be diabetes or not.
I got a 5.5, and i know that's considered normal, but should I be worried? It also said my mean blood glucose was 104.
about 3 months ago I had a non fasting test done and I got a 92. Just don't know if I should be worried or not.

It could be anything! Im around those levels are am always thirsty. They cut off at a figure (7), but that doesnt mean symptoms dont start before or after!!!!

Dry mouth could be a symptom of dehydration as well. Don't worry, your blood sugar seems perfectly normal.

You won't get just dry mouth, but also excessive thirst and urination when having high blood sugar. I easily go to the toilet 2-3 times in the hour if my blood sugar gets too high. Also feeling tired and exhaused are common when struggling with blood sugar. Unless you don't feel any of these symtoms as well, there's no need to worry.

I had both fasting blood sugar up to 118 and random readings way above 200s, so a normal reading at 104 are just fine, and a fasting below 100 are exellent. I would guess your dry mouth are caused something else then diabetes. But if you're still worried you can always buy a blood sugar monitor and test you blood sugar after eating something sweet, just to see how your body reacts to loads of sugar. If it still stays below 200 you are most likely healthy, or at least not diabetic ;)

Doesn't sound like your blood sugar is the issue..so no, I wouldn't worry. The HbA1c test establishes your average blood sugar level over the preceding 3 months, and is pretty accurate. With a normal reading like yours - you are NOT diabetic. By all means get it done again to see if there's any change (if your doctor will do another one..maybe 3 months from now). It does sound more like a little dehydration to me. Also, do you smoke? Try just upping your fluid intake a little (water or well diluted fruit juice). I totally understand your concern...Hope it sorts itself.

I had a couple of UTI before I realized I had diabetes. It was just one of the warning signs. Was also peeing a lot especially in then morning.
