Can anyone help me please?
We all emjoy a good behind-the-hand giggle when someone within earshot coughs in their underwear. Go on, tell me you haven't got the merest hint of a smile creeping about your lips at this very moment. :D But think on, spare a thought for the poor chap down on one knee, a beautiful gem ring in a small box about to ask the most important question of his life, the very last thing that he wants to do at this juncture is to add to the worlds methane levels.
Seriously though I'm taking Prandin tablets 3 times a day at 2 mg doses and a single B vitamin tablet.
I have had a little problem with "gas" but nothing that an indigestion pill could not sort out.
Last week I suddenly developed an enormous "gas attack" (sounds like something from World War 1). I took a couple of indigestion tablets and went to bed. I awake suddenly needing to rush to the bathroom to vomit profusly. The pains did not abate, but got worse. At 3am it was so painful my ever sympathic and patient (wrong spelling) partner took be to the local Medical Centre.
After I was given a good examination the Dr. diagnosed Gastric Enteristis (wrong spelling again, sorry) and received two jabs in the rear end. Those jabs seemed to have worked but two days later I was still getting the urge to vomit. Those too have passed but have left me with incredible gas.
Any advice will be listened to. Thanks.

Hi ****, I had gastro enteritis when I was a teenager, it was horrible, so you have my sympathies. Glad to hear you are getting better, but it may take a bit of extra time. I wonder if the methane issue is diet related. I have noticed that I have been producing a lot less methane since I have reduce the carbohydrates in my diet. Particularly I think since I cut right back on fruit.

I am not sure what you are eating, I looked back through your posts but couldn't find details, if you can give us an idea of what you are eating we might be able to suggest small changes to maybe make a difference.

Not sure about the meds you are on though, maybe someone else can advise?

Oooooh **** ... I do sympathise with you. But I also agree with Fraddycat about the carb reduction because since I cut out the carbs, especially bread and potatoes I have been 'stomach gurgling and methane free' for the first time in my life! It's a totally new experience for me having a 'quite digestive system' and I marvel at it every day. And just to be sure it is the carb cutting that makes the difference, every now and then I'll eat a meal with carbs and the difference is phenomenal and instantaneous. I don't know how I've survived so long eating carbs.

I went for a very long 'methane free' walk in the park this afternoon and I felt absolutely marvellous and my friend suggested fish and chips for supper (my one and only treat that I'm finding hard to say goodbye to) so I agreed. I ate them, thoroughly enjoyed them, savoured them but about three minutes after the first mouthful the gurgling started. Then I started to feel bloated so I checked my BG and it was 9.1 two hours after eating. It would normally be around the 6.2 mark after a non carb meal.

So that's it - I've had my chips! No more fish and chips for me, but I knew that was on the cards, just took me a long time saying "Goodbye Mr Chips!"

Perhaps you need to review your diet and try eating less carbs or cutting them out if you find yourself flying your kite a bit too often. :D

Hi, I would say the same as GraceK. It's been about 5 months since I started low carbing, 2 weeks now of no metformin. My lets say toilet duties and all that goes with that has never been better. I now think that for many many years I have had a problem, not necessarily diabetes but some kinda intolerance or IBS or something.

Google "leaky gut". I don't think the problem you were all experiencing was down to carbohydrates per se, but down to cutting out grains from your diet:

Hmmm ... you could be right boro but I get those same symptoms after eating potatoes too and I've always thought it was the veggies that did it to me, not the spuds. Yet last night I ate a bowl of steamed cauli and brocolli with melted butter and I'd have expected a fly my kite after that lot yet my tum was quiet as quiet could be. Yet if I go anywhere near a spud I'm really not very nice to be near afterwards.

Hello once again,
Just a quick line or two to say thanks for all your advice from you all.
To answer Fraddycat's queiry regarding my diet. Since being diagnosed I have been trying to follow a "healthy" diet (carbs, protien and fibre). My doctor instructed me NOT to eat any fruit, owing to a high sugar content, and also not to eat shellfish of any sort. Otherwise I could eat what I wanted within the bounaries of common sense.
Again thanks a lot for all your posts. **** in Spain.
