Should I consider medication?

keep going back to my bad eating habits
i m amazed at the low readings! I m around 8.5mmol every morning regardless of low carbs or not, for past 6 months when i was diagonsed T2.
Should i be considering medication?
 
Hi. I would test 2 hours after some typical meals. A fasting test can be mis-leading as it can be affected by the overnight liver dump. If the 2 hour readings are higher than 8.5mmol then talk to the GP
 
When you say you are Low carb .. how low do do you go .. also are you still eating low fat foods ?
 
I had no issue in using medication to initially bring my BG down.

When it's down, that's the time to consider not using it for me.
 
When I was first diagnosed a level of 15 was not uncommon for me in the evening. Admittedly it may have been partly the effect of steroids I had to take (which have a reaction in your sugars late in the day), but my levels were still too high. I was started on Metformin and Gliclizade - couldn't take the Metformin after 2 weeks and successfully carried on with Glicliazade. The drug is known for bringing down your levels quickly because it increases the amount of insulin your pancreas produces. But this combined with LCHF and daily exercise has meant that 4½ months later I am now 2½ stone lighter and now have been able to come off all meds. I know I was anxious about taking meds when I started, but I think if you see it as a means to an end, it becomes easier to handle. There are now a raft of different drugs you can take, not just the two I have been on, so sometimes its a case of finding which one is the best for you and going from there.

You say you are pre-diabetic.. do you have your most recent HbA1c results?
As others have said Low carb means a whole lot of things to different people do you know how many you are eating each day?
My FBG took the longest to come down as others have said it may not be the most useful guide.. test before and one and 2 hours after the first mouthful to see how your body is reacting to certain foods. Then you can see if your dietary changes are having the required effect.

As others have said, the fasting level on its own is meaningless because too many factors affect it, many of which are outside our control. In my opinion, the best test to see how you are doing generally is immediately before your evening meal. You also need to test before and after meals to see how your own insulin is working.

If your levels remain high, then your diet is most likely the culprit.

When you say you are Low carb .. how low do do you go .. also are you still eating low fat foods ?
Usually under 100 gr of carbs per day, sometimes lower.
Maybe it's not enough.... Akthpugh it s alreafy challenging at 100grms!
