Should I do what the specialist nurse says.

Have a look at this link to download NICE guidelines on obesity and BMI ranges:

http://publications.nice.org.uk/obesity-cg43

It's a bit old now (2006) and contains the usual NHS nonsense about carbs i.e. eat plenty of them, 50% of meal energy makeup etc. Where do they get all this dietary guidance from and then everyone wonders why we have an obese nation? Actually they get the info from the FSA as it says in the appendix, but the FSA website seems to focus on food safety so I wonder where they draw their dietary guidance from?

Is it possible to change your practice? If not ask to see a doctor - my surgery has GP's who have a particular interest in certain conditions i.e. depression, diabetes, women's health etc. It sometimes seems that the more you do to understand your condition the more they give the "I'm the nurse/doctor and I know what's best" Hope you can sort this out because if you're not confident with the advice you are getting it can be quite draining.
