Should I Feel Better

Hi all

I was diagosed in May with a H1ac score of 147. Since then with the help of improved diet and metformin twice a day, my H1ac score has gone down to 85. I have been testing myself and my guess (based on mornings 7mmols, 2 hours after meals 7-11 and after exercise 3.5-5.5 that my H1AC will go down to 60 ish once the blood works though.

So should i feel better? obviously it is hard to remember quite how bad i felt before (and i dont just fall asleep on sofa as much now) but i am still permanantly tired, often woozy headed (dizzy when standing up ) and slow in complex conversations. Also cant run faster than 11 min miles and cant reach shots in racquet sports like i could a year or 2 ago. Should i expect to start feeling better as my blood gets replaced and my H1ac gets better? or should i already feel much better?

Hope that makes some sense

Hi @infinitemantra and welcome to the forum. You have done really well to bring your bs levels down so quickly. I can't say whether your feeling tired and woozy is normal or not. Our bodies are all different and react in different ways. You seem to be doing well to me to be able to play tennis at all, and to be able to run a mile in 11 minutes. I don't think I could even run a mile!
Also adopting a low carb approach to eating can cause what is known as 'carb flu' because your body is not used to your new diet and takes time to adjust.

Hi

I am not sure what my blood pressure is - but i have had it checked many times and always normal or good if i have asked.

What do i eat - i am not recording everything just taking obvious measures (not eating and sugar, fruits except berries, no prcessed foods, and reducing carbs but not counting) I can remember what i ate yesterday

Actually on reflection i have probably been reucing carbs more and more - as i read these threads

breakfast (1mg metformin - veg and bean stew small amount of potatoes in it)

Lunch (veg and bean stew)

Snacks about 5pm (a few red currants and stawberries, a few carrots, some brazil nuts)

Dinner (1 meg metformin steak, onions, mushrooms, swischard (leaf greens like spinach))

Blood was 6 in morming (which was the best it has been) 5.7 when got home at 8ish and 5.5 bedtime 10ish (decidednot to run as was tired)

Also My blood was 5.3 this morning which was both a record low and also the first time it has gone down overnight - usually goes up. sometimes goes up a lot. (once 3.7 after run then 7.5 in morning)

Cheers

I agree with Diabell that you should discuss how you are feeling with your doctor.

In addition to this feeling possibly being due to 'carb-flu', I am wondering if the (side) effects from the Metformin might be the cause of how you're feeling, although stomach upsets are more likely to be experienced. The other thought is that, assuming you are now on a statin medication which may be causing some of this. Hopefully, your doctor will have some idea as to what is causing you to feel like this.

Everyone is different, of course, and my thoughts aren't suggesting that your meds are responsible, but just for you to be aware of the possibility.

Sounds very much like you should talk this over with a doctor as mentioned these are not typical to diabetes

hi all
thanks for the replys. yes i am on a statin although I keep forgetting to take it and my cholestrol has gone down to 4.3.
i had considered side effects from metformin as a reason for the dizziness cant remember if i have got it when not taking the statin.
yes i will go back to the doctor to discuss. i have a retinopathy scan and a scan on my side (pain there) this month so will go back to the doctor after those

cheers
