My glucose and ketones have been very high since Tuesday.

My glucose meter just says HI which according to the meter means it could be anything above 33.5

My ketone count is currently 5.0 mmol/l and jumps between 3 and 6.

I've been trying to treat it on my own by flushing my system with water and insulin and retesting every hour but nothing seems to help.

Should I go to hospital or treat it another way?

Yes, go to hospital - or call 111 for advice, but they are likely to tell you to get to A&E. Have you got someone who can take you?

I don't have anyone to take me at the moment, I'd have to travel there by public transport

I would call 111 if I were you and ask for their advice - it's a free non emergency NHS medical advice line, they will basically triage you and decide whether you need help with transport. Give them a call and you will get to speak to a doctor or nurse fairly quickly.

Have you let someone in "real life" know what your blood sugars are doing, just so they can check in on you?

Do call 111 though - this is what they are for.

You need to go straight to a & e. That's what my diabetes nurses have advised me if that happens. You could get very ill very quickly good luck

Nobody in real life knows as I haven't really got anyone to tell and haven't had this problem before.

Thank you for your advice!

Hi @Joi1994
please tell us you have rung 111 and are getting advice

It wouldn't be unreasonable to call 999 - I was trying not to be over dramatic in suggesting 111 first. But if you are on your own without any support it is really important to call 111 or 999 for help now. High ketones for 5 days does put you if not in DKA at terribly high risk of it. I don't think trying to get to hospital on public transport would be that sensible right now.

Please please get some help you really need hospital now or even yesterday. Those numbers and ketones are life threatening.
Have you checked your pens and changed your insulin cartridges to make sure they are working correctly?

First though you need hospital to get those numbers down.

Dial 999 on mobile or phone and ask for ambulance due to high bg levels and high keytones which you have had for a while. You do need to get to hospital even if it's by ambulance. DKA can be life threatening so dont muck about sending msgs to forum........ get to hospital

You must be feeling ****.. Please dial 999 and tell everything..
My hubby did this for me last weekend. I didn't get taken in because I refused but if I was in your levels and ketones I would have gone in without doubt.

Please dial 999, you need A&E....you will not be feeling or acting normally and you need priority help.

hope you have taken the above advice and if so that you get the treatment you need to get the blood sugar and keytones to a safe level.

Hi. Yes, do get to A&E one way or another. In the meantime greatly reduce any carb foods such as those with sugar or made from grains/cereals. Having a lot of water is good.

Concerned how you are, please let us know. We'll all be worried.. Xx
