Hi all!! I am a bit confused... Since being diagnosed with type 2 three months ago,I immediately started to change my diet, (cutting out sweets/pastries etc) and started exercising, (recently be one addicted to the gym....lol)!!! I was prescribed metformin 3 weeks ago, (1 tablet per day). I test my urine every day, but I would like to know if you fellow type 2's think I should ask for a BG monitor? Please help??

Can't hurt to ask but not sure if they'll give you one ! Some will, some won't. Try to be very persuasive and that you are very keen to monitor your own levels and keep fingers crossed. Well done on the progress BTW. !

Yes you could always ask. The consensus is that you are unlikely to get one unless you take stronger pills than Metformin and are therefore liable to suffer a hypo. I know of one person who is on stronger pills and still didn't get a monitor.

Having said that, the next hurdle is to get them to prescribe the test strips without which the meter does not work. Those of us with meters are usually rationed in the use of test strips. In my case to one a day.

Good luck when you ask but you can always buy your own as many people have.
