Should I stop Metformin

Hi all.

I was admitted to hospital with Bg of 27 in November 2008. After an uncomfortable weekend on drips etc etc they could still not identify if i was Type 1 or 2.
Therfore i was put on Lantus and Metformin. Fortunately within a month of sensible eating, i was previously living on sugar and fat, i came off the lantus. I then lost 2 stone in weight and dropped to 1 metformin with my evening meal. I now regularly exercise either gym and swimming 5 times a week and my HBa1c is down to 6.0
My BG readings throughout the day are good. With my morning readings being the only cause for concern at a variable between 6 and 7 which i have previously been informed on this site as maybe being the dawn phenomenom.
Last night i forgot to take my Metformin and this morning my reading was the best it has been at 4.5. I would like to know if i should continue with the 1 Metformin I am taking or should i revert to diet only.I appreciate that compared to many on this site my condition and query is small, but the wisdom and expertise i have been reading during the last 8 months have indicated to me that there is more collective knowledge here than in my doctors surgery.

Although there is a lot of empirical knowledge here it is only ever advisable to stop medication in conjunction with advice from your doctor.

Yes they do.

Mine certainly has reduced my Met down to just 2 a day and is planning for me to stop them altogether along with other meds now I have tight control of Bg numbers and readings are all much lower.

Then again, it does all depend on the individual GP I suppose ?
