I've been taking them for a few years and over the past 2 years I've had real problems with muscle strains and the nurse has just said stop taking them for 2 months and see how I feel.
I've just read a piece on the web that says don't cease immediately, rather halve the daily dose for one week then in the 2nd week take the dose every other day gradually diminishing to none by the end of the 3rd week.
The nurse made no mention of this and I came away today all set to stop taking them as of now - any advice please.

As far as I am aware, most people get any side effects from the use of a statin fairly quickly after starting them. You appear not to have had any symptoms for some time after commencing hem. If you need to take a statin then your nurse could have tried you on a different statin. What cholesterol advice did she give you? I would be wanting to see a doctor about this.

My Mum stopped taking them overnight and said she started to feel better within a couple of days as she had difficultly walking and such. Now a couple of years down the line she is far, far better without them and her levels have never risen.

My side effects from Simvastatin came on quite slowly; I gave them up after 3 years. I think I just stopped taking them, but I can't really remember at this distance. I was only on a low dose - 10mg, or whatever. You may need to come off them slowly if you're on a higher dose.

I would be inclined to take the advice of the nurse, there are alternative statins and perhaps it's worth discussing these with your gp.

I had muscle pains that I did not know the cause of - until I read two letters in Balance that accused statins. I stopped taking them (10 mg) & was better within a week. I then told the Dr & he agreed I should not take them. He did not suggest changing from simv to another. The pharmacist agreed that muscle pain was a side effect. That must be five years ago.
