Hi guys, long time no post but I have a question. I'm a type 1 diabetic and my boyfriend is a non diabetic. He's 24. Skinny but unfit. Last night we had a night out and got really drunk and I decided to test his blood sugar just to try and get him to get over his fear of watching me do it.

He hadn't eaten anything since at least 8pm and this was about 3am. He had been drinking Budweiser and a little of my Jack Daniels (with diet coke). His blood sugar was 8.7mmol/l. Which struck me as being high for a non diabetic. Mine was only 4.6mmol/l which made me giggle.

But anyway, should he get tested or is 8.7 normal for a non diabetic that has consumed beer within the last hour. I know if he had eaten and it was 2 hours after it shouldn't be that high, but I find alcohol gives me hypos so I'm OK drinking whatever.

Hard to tell. Do a fasting and see if it's over 7 and if you are keen 100g of sugar and over 11 @ 2hr is diabetic.
fasting less than 7 and over 5.5 puts him at pre-diabetic

It's probably the carbs in the beer & the alcohol that has slightly raised it. Jacks advice is good!

100g of sugar. Does this produce similar results to a surgery test of drinking glucose solution i.e., is this a home version?
