Sick bug

I have just had a stomach bug which meant I was unable to eat or keep fluids down and have to say was slightly panicked as first time I've experienced since being diagnosed 13 yrs ago (T1). Read through all the 'sick day' rules I could find & found most sadly lacking if unable to eat. Eventually decided to take Basal insulin slightly reduced (worrying about being able to treat any hypo) and although took normal bolus on first morning as BG level appeared to be climbing, I then only gave more bolus once able to eat half a slice of toast. Rewarded this morning by feeling on the mend and a BG of 5.2. I did test frequently and try to keep sipping water. Amazed & relieved.

I have always found my BG to go a little on the low side for a sickness bug type illness. Make sure you do keep taking your Basal insulin though. You won't need your Bolus unless eating or you really need to correct in the case of high BG.

For infections and colds etc it always shows the classic rise in BG.

Glad you are starting to feel a little better.
