simvastatin-label-change-new-restrictions

I was put on 80 mgs. after a heart attack. I will describe to you how I felt all the time.
Legs felt as though they were made of lead, all my joints ached, would have trouble standing for short periods when doing everyday tasks, felt light headed, memory got really bad, needed someone with me as I was scared to be on my own in case I passed out and had to stop driving because I felt I was a danger to myself and others. Every day was a nightmare and I thought it was the after effects of the heart attack and things would gradually improve, silly me. :roll: :roll: Chemist was my ally in getting it changed as he told me to go back to G.P. as it was not recommended at this level. The Hospital Consultant had prescribed it.
Within a few weeks of refusing to take any form of statins, I was back to my old self, full of energy and living life to the full. Cholesterol levels were not that high but I think the HCP's were concerned about it following my illness.
I would say to anyone who feels ill on statins, whatever the dose, go back and discuss it with your G.P. and make an informed choice as to whether the possible positives outweigh the negatives or if a different form,not this particular one would be worth trying.
The only thing I do now to keep my cholesterol at acceptable levels is to make sure my diet includes foods that are known to reduce cholesterol.

About time too.

We were told by our Dr that the incidence of statin problems was insignificant - less than 1 in 10,000.
In my case, even with 10 mg daily, the incidence was 100% - intense muscle pain that went away in about a week after I stopped.
Only when I reported why I had stopped it to the Dr did he tell me it was a known side effect.
We do need the truth, & proper warnings.
 
I thought I had it bad with Simvastatin - sounds like I had it pretty easy compared to you, Catherine.

I also had problems with Rosuvastatin...

I guess statins just aren't good for some people. I wish they'd do more research into the reasons WHY. But where's the money in that?

[EDIT: My legs have been aching for while now, but I am NOT taking any statins. I'm taking Ezetimibe, and have not had any pains like this on those tablets before. HOWEVER, my chol. has been elevated for a while (creopt up...), and my Dr. said that it would come down when I resumed my overnight insulin. Looking back, it may be the insulin that is causing the pain to return. Could it be that it is not the drugs (insulin/statins) that are causing the pain, but the fact that chol. is getting/gone lower????]
