Hi,I found out in November I had Type 2,I was gubsmacked to say the least but I'm preaching to the converted:) .
I bought a Sinocare Safe-Accu Blood Glucose Meter kit.
In the instruction book it say that the meter doesn't need to tested by a control solution as this has already been done at their factory.
I would like to test the Meter with a control solution. Sinocare doesn't make any control solution. Can I use any type of Blood Glucose control solution?
Thanks.

Hi @Turlough123 and welcome to the forums.

My understanding (and I haven't bothered with control solution for any meter I am using for decades, though I have occasionally checked one meter against another to see that results are similar) is that you have to use the control solution for the relevant meter/brand

If the manual says the meter doesn't need it, I think you are out of luck.

Do you have reason to think your meter is inaccurate?

Welcome @Turlough123
If the manufacturer of the meter do not consider a control solution is required and do not make one suitable for their machine. I really don't think that using a control solution from another manufacturer would prove or disprove any accuracy issues you are having.
Could you explain what problems you are having, the chances are that someone has come across the same issues or has the same meter and may be able to offer some advice.

Hi,thanks for the replies. I'm still fairly new to all this so have been flying by the seat of my pants mostly.
I read it was advisable to check your meter when you open a new packet of test strips that's why I was asking about control solutions wasn't really having any problems with the meter.
Are there any meters that are better than others?

I use a Sinocare Safe Accu never really bothered or thought about control solution. I have used control solution for another glucose meter I have but only because I started to see unreliable results. The Sinocare device is fairly basic there are more sophisticated glucose meters around but possibly/probably more expensive. Its the on-going cost of strips which you need to factor in. I have found the Sinocare test strips are some of the cheapest and they do the job well for me, just be careful to make sure you purchase the correct Sinocare strips for the device you have, as the strips are not interchangeable. I also have a Tee2 meter which a number of others on the forum use. I sometimes do a comparison between both devices and I find that there is really not much difference in the results, which I take to be a positive reinforcement.

They all have to comply with the same industry standards of accuracy, some of the more expensive ones have lots of bells and whistles, they can connect with apps/phones and produce fancy graphs and charts if that's your thing. But if all you want to know is where about your blood sugar level is then a meter with reasonably cheep strips makes more sense.

Thank you for all the helpful replies. I think I'll stick with the Sinocare for now.

Appreciated.
