Sky high blood sugars

Hi, a relation of mine whom is a diabetic had been told their blood sugars were 99.9 and i wanted to know what could cause them to have gone so dangerously high?

think it wouldn't be mmol, as that would be unconscious levels, although everyone has different tolerances.......

the cause of high levels is a lack of insulin basically........

I'm not sure what it was as i wasn't told, all i was told is that my relative's blood sugars had sky rocketed. but they were still concious as they went to the doctor and the doctor was the one who told them.
