Hi been on a low carb high fat diet since March 2020. Was taking metformin blood pressure medication and statins. Then the lock down started. Had bloods done in June my Hb1ac went from 59 to 48. Stopped taking all my meds also my weight dropped a lot. Carried on with the low carb life style feeling pretty good. Come Christmas had my bloods done and my blood pressure taken. Blood pressure was spot on but the Hb1ac had a slight rise to 49. My BMI has gone from 35 to 25. Any idea why my Hb1ac has gone up and my ldl is 7.2 and hdl is 2.4

48-49 is about the same reading.. just some noise although still in the T2 category.. might be worth trying to reduce carbs a little more to see if that has a significant impact.

There’s a margin of error with all tests. Imho, it’s a great time to make slight adjustments to your diet and exercise plan. Keep at it!

Are you checking your after meal glucose levels? You might be eating something which causes you to spike - I have to avoid peas and beans for instance, as I react to them as though they were far higher in carbs than listed. If you can discover a rogue food and replace it with something which you can cope with you might then see your Hba1c reduce.

Unless your HbA1c results continue to rise, just keep a close eye on your diet, test before and after meals. but also accept that you may well get some slight variations in results.anyway. A number of things other than food can also affect glucose levels and therefore your HbA1c results, and certain medications (e.g. statins and steroids) can be major culprits, so just be aware of any other issues that might be causing an increase.

I've kept my HbA1c between 40-43 for over 7 years except when I'm stressed, ill, in pain, etc, when I'll generally see a rise, but levels always come back down again. For the most part unless I really have a bit of a carby binge, these non food issues have more effect on my glucose levels than my diet tends to.
