Does anyone follow the red diet of slimming world? More importantly, does it work, as my wife is a member and looking thru the recipies, the red one looks kind of low carb, and the green obviously high due to the pasta, potatoes etc...

I used to attend Slimming World (before diabetes), using mainly red days, and it worked.

Unfortunately over the years I've gained weight again and am thinking of going back to Slimming World. Was talking to one of their leaders recently and she seems fairly ok on how their eating plan can work for type 2s.

Wondering what advice others can give.

First thing is check the Carb content carefully, a lot of them are high in carbs, despite what some people think. It is a weight loss programme, NOT a diet suitable for Diabetic's who also have to watch the Carb content and Bg levels. Most Diabetics cut down on Carbs in some way.

Is the 'leader' a Diabetic ? Trust YOUR OWN judgement, not what somebody, who basically is interested in selling the plan to you, tells you. Save yourself money by working out your own diet plan using the info gleaned from here.

If in doubt get the nutrition info and ask us here.

In my experience, all the slimming clubs will tell you they have programmes suitable for diabetics. If you stick to the DUK,recommended diet normally, that may well be true, but if you are reducing your carbs, their programmes won't probably suit. Most of them are based around low fat/low calorie. It doesn't work for me.
You need to check the programme to see if it marches with your diabetes control.

I think it would be better to use the information on this forum to devise your own diet and then use the forum for support when you need it. There are many good supporters on here.

And test! :D
