Husband has just injected 5 slow Detemir instead of 5 Novorapid. He would be taking 6 slow at 9.30 (it's now 6.30). What shall we do? Take the fast now and just 1 Detemir at 9.30?

I would still take the determir 1 unit at the normal time.
Still bolus and eat now but watch carefully for
rest of night and over night.

Done that, thanks. I suppose he's now got 5 slow working 3 hours early. The peak is 4 - 5 hours which would normally happen for him at 2 in the morning. I suppose in 24 hours time he's going to have a 3 hour gap - ****** again!

Can you tell me donnellysdogs does slow have the same action as rapid but over a longer time? For example - he takes 2 x 6 units Detemir = 12 units does it get absorbed at half a unit an hour? So dropping the BG by 1mmol per hour (assuming 1 unit causes a 2mmol drop.

No, the insulin for slow acting is how you mentioned originally .. it has a peak when it is acting most...the only background insulin that sort of works at a flat rate is Tresiba. All the other basal insulins have a peak acting time and a build up and tailing off...

You are supposing right refr insulin prob finishing 3 hours earlier tomorrow. If levels do rise during that time it could be dealt with just by a correction of bolus.
