Forgive me for asking so many questions as a new forum member but has anybody used low carb smoothies as an alternative to the optifast shakes as used in the Newcastle diet , i have been looking at some low carb recipes specifically aimed at diabetics and to be honest they look more interesting than milk based shakes and look to contain more of the nutrients that i would need in a normal days requirement , as i already have a blender it would probably be more convenient and i wouldn't have to use milk as required in most meal replacement shakes .
Any thoughts please ?

Hi. I would say the key thing is to have shakes that you like and that are low'ish carb. It all depends on how 'religious' you are about the ND. I know what I would do bearing in mind we need to keep the carbs down.

Low carb is always an option.
It doesn't seem to have the same results as the original diet, with regard to 'remission' but it's fine if you intend to just lose weight, and intend to continue on low carb for life.

I've been diagnosed type 2 just over a year ago and still not got my head round it, had a lot going on with a separation after 34 years and having to move house and feel a bit depressed about it all. Can you go on a shakes diet as for me not to have to think about it at the mo would be great!!

The 'Newcastle Diet'
There are quite a few threads on here about it.
